Explorers Group Commitment Rules

Welcome to the MCG Explorer's group!  Our aim is to get to our environs more intimately by visiting new places, giving a different aspect to an already known area and meeting some of the interesting people who live in this fascinating city we call home.

Each member of the team takes a turn to plan and lead fellow explorers on a tour of his or her choice. During the tour, the leader will share the insight he/she has gained about the area and/or the people met.

Unless otherwise noted, the Explorer Group A meets every second Monday of each month, Explorer Group B meets every third Monday of each month.

If you are interested in joining the Explorer Groups, please read the commitments for
both the Tour Coordinator and Participants below.

Tour Coordinator's Responsibilities
Much of how you plan your tour is left to your imagination, but there are a few guidelines that need to be followed:

  • Two members may work together as a team, however, they are then responsible for two events.
  • Using a professional travel agent to lead the tour isn't the idea, but getting ideas from them is fine. If you do use a guide, compensation is your responsibility.
  • Tours should generally begin between 9:30am - 10:00am and finish no later than mid-afternoon, however, timing is flexible.
  • Part of your tour might  include breakfast which is fine, but when that is not the case, plan lunch or make restaurant suggestions.
  • Two weeks before your tour, you must send out all information regarding your planned tour.  Alternatively, you can give out the information at the event preceeding yours.
    Information you should include:
    • the title of your tour
    • map or written directions
    • meeting place and time
    • parking suggestions
    • cameras allowed?
    • dress requirements - modest dress is best in most cases
    • any other pertinent information

  • You, as tour leader, are responsible for coordinating transportation.  Find out who is willing to drive and set up carpool.  Those not driving should compensate the driver RM5 for gas.  For a tour outside of KL, a minivan may be arranged and cost will be divided evenly among members.
  • Each member is responsible for writing a report regarding their tour which should be submitted to the Explorers convenor by the 5th of the following month.  This report will then be published in our monthly newsletter so that the general membership can gain from our explorations of Kuala Lumpur and surroundings.

If you need ideas or help with your tour, just visit our MCG library which is filled with wonderful books, periodicals, research papers, etc. which can greatly help.

Participants Responsibilities:

  • Each Explorer should plan on attending all the tours unless there is an extremely good reason (ie; out of town, sick child or illness). A doctor's appointment is not an excuse, nor is 'already been there or not interested'. We can all learn something new from each encounter and your fellow Explorers work very hard to organize a tour, so we all need to support each Explorer's effort! Explorers will meet the second Monday of each month, so you can plan accordingly for the entire year!
  • When a tour leader contacts you, please be considerate enough to answer her email or phone message. She needs to hear from you! If you are going to be out of town, please let the Explorers Convenor and the tour leader know. On the rare occasion that you cannot attend a tour, please contact the appropriate tour leader.
  • Be certain you have all Explorers handphone numbers stored in you h/p for ease of communication.
  • As with all MCG events, guests are not allowed unless specifically stated. If you have out of town guests, contact the appropriate tour leader and ask if you may bring visitors.

  •

    MOST IMPORTANTLY - HAVE FUN!
